Our Current Destination – Bronte Creek Provincial Park, Burlington, ON

What is more fun than planning a trip! From the day we bought our Trailer we started looking up places we wanted to go. We were like kids on Christmas morning, all excited about the endless possibilities.
But reality set in as we remembered we still have jobs to go to and our trips would be primarily on weekends. We didn’t want to spend hours driving and only get to spend a day before having to drive home. This meant looking more local and you would think that would have limited the options, but not at all. In Ontario we have many Provincial Parks, KOA Campgrounds, and Private Campgrounds.
For our first adventure, we decided to pick somewhere that was within an hour. This way if something went wrong, we wouldn’t be far from home. This led up to find Bronte Creek Provincial Park, which is nestled between Burlington and Oakville.
If you have never booked at a Provincial Park here is a tip that was passes on to us…book as soon as they allow you too online. This means start looking in January at when each Provincial Park will allow you to book their sites. We lucked out and were able to book site 106 at Bronte Creek and decided to do an early trip, their first open weekend in fact, May 10 – 12.
Being that we booked for early May we had no idea what the weather would bring us. This was also the thought of keeping it somewhat close to home. Our Trailer does have a furnace so not all would be lost unless it snowed. We kept and open mind and hoped for the best and the best is what we ended up getting. Three cloudless and sunny days with warm temperatures of 26, 16, and 24 degrees.
May 10th arrived, and I wasn’t sure if Steve was going to be ok to drive. His excitement had him almost hyper. Could he sit for the just over an hour drive? Hooking up the Trailer went smoothly and then we headed off on the Highway. I must admit I was feeling anxious as a newborns mother as we headed up for our weekend.
As we drove through a subdivision in Burlington and my map said we were only a couple mins away, I couldn’t help but wonder if we had gone the wrong way. We turned out of the subdivision and a short way up the street was the sign for Bronte Creek Provincial Park. We made it!
Bronte Creek is a beautiful, protected greenspace set between two big and growing cities, Burlington and Oakville. When we drove in it was like the city melted away and the quiet serene forest took over. We checked in at the gate and then headed over to fill our fresh water tank. I couldn’t get over not being able to hear the sounds of the city. Once we had our tank full, we headed into to our campsite. Like a professional, Steve backed in the Trailer in and the first set up began. The only minor hiccup we had was our different styles of tackling things. Even with that it went smoothly.

We had a fantastic weekend of walking and biking the scenic trails. Steve even marvelled at how someone can fall over on their bike in such slow motion, yup that was me. But he got an even bigger laugh while we were walking on Monday. I saw a snake and had a panic attack. I’ve had a fear of snakes since I was a kid and just have never gotten over it.

One of the best parts of the weekend was getting to meet some of the other Campers. On Sunday we met a nice couple having trouble with their electronic trailer braking system. They were from the Niagara area and this year had upgraded their pop-up trailer to a travel trailer.
We also met two young ladies camping for the night. They came over when they saw our raging nighttime fire to find out our trick. A short time later we looked over and they had a good start on their fire.

The highlight was meeting a Retired couple who are living full time in their RV. On our walks we had spotted their big drivable RV and were in awe. We then had the chance to speak to them and found out they have been on the road for the last two years. They were back in Ontario to see their kids and for the mandatory stay to keep your health coverage. Their travels sound incredible and we have started following their journey on @Rvliving.life. The best part for us was meeting a couple who are enjoying the life that we aspire to get too.
Sadly, Monday came, and we had to do our pack up and tear down. Before we did, we took one last walk and noted a few other sites that we might like to try on our next visit here. Then off to the dump station. Luckily, we did not re-create the iconic scene from RV where Robin Williams character gets covered in waste after a dump station mishap.

One last stop at the Store and thanked them for a nice weekend and we were heading home. We had such a great time and enjoyed everything Bronte Creek had to offer. We were a little sad about having to take the trailer back to its storage spot but in just three weeks we will be on a new adventure. Wondering where our current destination will be? Guess you will have to wait and see. Steve and I wish you happy travels!
